Woman’s Hour

Woman’s Hour is exploring the diversity of women in the media.  Should be interesting stuff.  Don’t know much about broadcast media but do know that women are well represented in my own newspaper and journals contact list and I couldn’t do without you!!!.

The Kensington Oval, Barbados is the venue for the three-match Twenty20 series on 9, 11, and 13 March 2014.

England last played the West Indies on their home soil in 2009 so the excitement is mounting.  Often referred to as the ‘Mecca’ of cricket, the Oval has hosted some notable cricket matches in its 120 year history including the Cricket World Cup Final in 2007. It is stunning ultra-modern venue with a seating capacity of 11,000, increasing to 28,000 for major tournaments.

This encounter promises to be as memorable as the rest.

Tickets will be released by the West Indies Cricket Board and you will need to register online.

Super Bowl XLVIII – New Jersey

2 February 2014 is going to be the biggest date in the USA’s sporting calendar next year, the day when the Super Bowl XLVIII brings the whole country to a standstill.

82,565 frenzied fans will fill the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey at the first ever cold-weather championship in the Super Bowl’s history.  Around 110 million TV viewers are expected to tune in.

Tickets range from around £300 to £1,600 and the National Football League offers packages including VIP access, refreshments, accommodation and merchandise.

For the best chance of securing a seat there are all-inclusive packages from the UK.

XXII Olympic Winter Games – Sochi

From 6 to 23 February, the Black Sea city of Sochi will be the focus of world attention as it stages the first Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Russia.

Fifteen winter sports will be represented with ninety eight individual events to choose from. 6,000 athletes are expected to attend, representing eighty five countries.

Sochi Olympic Park will host most of the indoor events with the mountain resort of Krasnaya Polyana hosting outdoor events.  Around 75,000 people a day are expected to visit the Olympic Park with the Sochi Light Metro providing a 30 minute connection between both venues.

CoSport is the licensed provider of tickets, hotels, and hospitality packages ranging from 3 night stays to longer depending on your choice, but flights are not included.  A typical package for 2 people starts from around £5,800.  Tickets range from around £30 to £160 depending on the category.

Return flights to Sochi are available from Belfast and Edinburgh (BA), Manchester and Birmingham (KLM) and London City Airport (Air France) from around £550 return. 2014 FIFA World Cup – Brazil

Undoubtedly the hottest tickets on the planet next year will be for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, with kick off in Sao Paulo on Thursday 12th June 2014.  Twelve cities will host 64 matches over 32 days giving the event a gross stadia capacity of 3,720,225.

With 1.1 million tickets already allocated, remaining tickets for all 64 matches can be applied for between 8 December 2013 and 30 January 2014. Two more first-come-first-served ticketing periods take place from 26 February, right up until the World Cup Final on 13 July.

Tickets are only available through FIFA and range from around £55 to £620. An official Ticket and Resale platform opens in 2014.

There are no official tour companies attached to FIFA however, Infinity Tours (0800 612 9414) is an authorized sales agent for FIFA World Cup 2014 travel.  Match tickets are not included but the 6 to 32 night packages include all travel and accommodation between the twelve World Cup participating cities, from £3,099 to £9.999

Thomas Cook Sports (0844 800 9900) offers British Airways flights from Heathrow to Rio de Janiero, from £999 to £3759, excluding match tickets.
